When an employment contract between the University of California and a union expires, some provisions of the expired contract remain in effect and others expire. The status quo requires the university to maintain the same wages, hours and conditions of employment for the represented workers that existed at the time the contract expired until an agreement was reached with the union. The status quo period can be a difficult time for campus managers and supervisors. Much of management`s discretion with respect to different terms of employment, wages and hours requiring contractual redundancy will cease during the status quo. However, not all wages, hours and conditions of employment are negotiated. Some are outside the negotiating framework and remain at the helm of management during the status quo period. These include decisions about the reorganization of services or the organization of activities or programs, recruitment decisions and decisions that are at the heart of the university`s mission. While some management decisions are outside the negotiating framework, the impact of these decisions can be negotiated. Many status quo conditions are reflected in the language of expiring employment contracts, but others do not. When a contract expires, the university cannot change wages, hours and terms of employment without informing the union and negotiating the change.
These include changes to working time, sick leave procedures, performance assessment procedures, work schedules such as changes in working time, changes in departure and downtime, changes to lunchtime and flexible work requests. The general rule is that current business conditions for employees are maintained in collective agreement units. However, the application of the principles of the status quo to the articles of the treaty is of particular importance: at democratic meetings, voting is often subject to a custom that is given according to the status quo, which is at the heart of Speaker Denison`s rule. Clark Kerr was quoted as saying, „The status quo is the only solution that cannot be vetoed.“  Under the control of the Roman Empire and after its division by the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine), these eastern sites did not become a point of disagreement until the centuries following 1054, when the Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodoxy separated. Because the sites had been managed by the Eastern hierarchy of the Church, they remained Orthodox. After the conquest of the Holy Land by Western Knights in the First Crusade, some sites moved from the Orthodox Church to the Catholic Church in the 12th century, although indigenous Christians remained predominantly Orthodox at the time (as now). With the defeat of the Crusader States and the rise of the Ottoman Empire, control of the sites between the Catholic (Latin) and Orthodox (Greek) churches, according to what a favorable company of the Ottoman „Sublime Gate“ could obtain at one time, often out of pure bribery. Violent clashes were not uncommon. There was no agreement on this issue, although it was discussed during the negotiations on the Karlowitz Treaty in 1699.  Karl Marx saw organized religion as a way for the bourgeoisie to satisfy the proletariat with an unequal status quo.
 The status quo is a Latin expression that means the current state of affairs, particularly with regard to social or political issues.  In the sociological sense, it generally applies to the maintenance or modification of existing social structures and/or values.  With regard to political debate, this means what the conditions are in inviting a good or bad analysis of these issues, for example: „Countries are now trying to maintain a status quo on their nuclear arsenal that helps them when the situation worsens“.  Only ten days later, the famous „Status quo Letter“ reached the office of Agudas Yisroel`s executive committee.
